Review the diagnostic clusters of personality disorders. Choose cluster A B or C and discuss the challenges of conducting research on that cluster.
Psychologists have categorized personality disorders into three different clusters denoted A, B and C. Cluster A is the odd, eccentric cluster, comprising of paranoid, schizoid and schizotypal disorders. The prominent and distinguishing feature of the disorders in this category are social awkwardness and social withdrawal, and are often dominated by distorted thinking. Cluster B disorders are erratic, with individuals afflicted showing signs of difficulty in regulating their emotions. Among the identified conditions in this category include antisocial personality disorder, histrionic personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder and borderline personality disorder. Characteristic of Cluster C disorders are anxiety and fearful behavior, with the afflicted individual particularly antisocial and withdrawn. Its scope includes dependent personality disorder, avoidant personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.
